The 7 Asafo Companies in Cape Coast

  Asafo  are traditional warrior groups in Akan culture. The word derives from  sa , meaning "war", and  fo , meaning "people". The traditional role of the Asafo companies was defence of the state. The 7 Asafo Companies of Cape Coast ; No. 1 Bentsir Company dressed in red attire trimmed with black takes the lead; the Company is further distinguished by its major emblem which is the grapnel. No.2 Anaafo Company follows wearing white costumes with blue trimmings – the company is led by three or four persons swinging long iron hooks; this is one of the main emblems. No.3 Nstin Company dressed in green edges with black trims, there is intermitted ringing of a bell; this is one of their major emblems. Oguaa Fetu Afahye is an annual festival celebrated on the first Saturday of September by the people and Chiefs of Oguaa Traditional Area (Cape Coast) in the Central Region of Ghana. Background According to tradition, a plague once pillaged the Oguaa community (Cape Coast). Such was the devastating effect of the plague that the people called on their gods before the plague stopped and the land was cleansed.  The word fetu is a contraction of ‘efin tu’ in the local dialect which means clearing the dirt. Oguaa Fetu Afahye festival is, therefore, a commemoration of that purification which saved the land from the plague and a show of gratitude to the 77 gods of the Oguaa Traditional Area. People from far and near joined the people of Elmina to celebrate this year's Bakatue festival on Tuesday, July 4, 2023 and will be climaxed with a durbar on Saturday, July 8, 2023. The Edina Bakatue Festival is an annual festival celebrated by the chiefs and peoples of Elmina in the Central Region of Ghana. The festival is celebrated on the first Tuesday in the month of July every year. The name "Bakatue" is from the Fante dialect and translates as "reopening of the Lagoon".  It's done every first Tuesday of July to lift the six-week ban on fishing that allowed the fishes in the sea to reproduce. Rites were performed for the Benya river god at the river bank and all the 77 gods of Elmina to traditionally lift the ban on fishing in the lagoon. His attendance was greeted with a warm welcome and  ardor  by students and staff who expected a special treat. Accompanied by Nicky Okiele , a renowned Ghanaian hairdresser from the UK, Memphis organized a unique event aimed at bringing smiles and style to the school. Together they formed a team of 25 talented hair stylists who generously provided services to students and staff, including free haircuts and trendy hair and makeup.   The Elmina Fishing Harbour in the notable city of Elmina in the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem (KEEA) Municipality of the Central Region was commissioned  on Friday, 26th May 2023 by His Excellency Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the President of the Republic of Ghana.   The scope of the project consists of an administrative building, fish market, sheds for net mending and workshop, an auction hall, a day care centre, access roads and pavements.  The Elmina Fishing Port Rehabilitation and Expansion Project aimed at securing adequate facilities, berthing space and creating deep marine access to ensure the durability of the Elmina harbour.  The completed construction of the breakwaters, quay walls, and civil buildings, together with the dredging and reclamation works of the new port basin guarantees the sustainable revitalization of the town and the long-term development of this strategic port.

Hon. Sam Dentu Celebrates Father’s Day with Constituents in KEEA

The Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Ghana Export Promotion Authority , Hon. Samuel Kofi Dentu, held a recreational sporting event dubbed “KEEA FATHER’S DAY NKABOM CUP" on Sunday, June 18, 2023.  The event was geared towards celebrating fathers and uniting the good people of Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem Municipality.  During the launch of the event, the 2024 Aspiring Parliamentary Candidate for the ruling New Patriotic Party in the KEEA Constituency admonished his constituents to remain united and work together towards the development of the constituency.
